3 ways to regulate your nervous system
Jun 29, 2025
Did you know that your triggers can have a huge impact on your nervous system?
The nervous system is an intricate aspect of our anatomy that is influenced by various factors in our daily lives🧠 Especially when we are feeling stressed and depleted, our nervous system can struggle to regulate and resource itself, making it harder to return to a state of balance and calm. ⸙
One of the most significant factors that can impact our nervous system is our triggers. When we encounter a trigger, our nervous system can go into fight or flight mode, which is a survival mechanism that can help us deal with perceived threats ✘
However, when we are constantly triggered, our nervous system can become overwhelmed, leading to chronic stress and other health issues👎🏽
So, here are 3 ways you can regulate the nervous system:
- Breathing exercises. This can be as simple as box breathing (in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for, repeat).
- Sing! Singing helps to activate the vagus nerve which helps to set off a myriad of internal reactions which calms your nervous system. If you can chant, or OM even better, but singing everyone can do!
- Meditate. Everyone can meditate, but if you’re running the story you can’t, at least get yourself into the present moment by focusing on 5 things you see, 4 things your feel, 3 things you hear, 2 things your smell and 1 thing you taste.
